Turning For Home by Richard Wheatland - The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft that was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft. It was used throughout the world during WWII and remains the most well known and well loved of all British planes.

The Spitfire was the only British fighter produced continuously throughout the war. Today around 54 Spitfires remain airworthy.

Loved painting the Spitfire. This is my second purchase from Materpiece by numbers. Canvas arrives rolled, good quality paints. I have one very happy Dad who now has this as his birthday gift. All stretched and framed. So many compliments. Pleasure to paint.

I think this was the most enjoyable one I’ve done so far. The detail on the plane is brilliant and I’m really pleased with the end result. I like the fact that the background is very unfussy, which makes the plane stand out so well. Of the half dozen MBNs I have done, I think this is the closest I have got to the original so far. The kit was excellent quality as always.

It was my 1st attempt at painting & I found it brilliant to do. I could have done with a small bristled paint brush for the difficult bits but I managed it in the end loved it. At the moment it is getting framed.

Really enjoyed this wee project. It kept me entertained and distracted from current events (2020). I would highly recommend this company. They are committed to providing an exceptional service. The picture itself is excellent, even after I'd daubed paint all over it. On to the next one...

My first MBN attempt

This was my first MBN painting. I had tried a Monet produced by another company which bore no resemblance to the image on their website. I am very happy with the Spitfire. I blended the sky colours and took a bit of care with the fiddly bits on the aircraft. As others have said magnification is recommended, especially for the older customer. I changed the Spitfire's serial number to match that of the New Zealand ace Al Deere, although I shied away from putting his kiwi picture under the cockpit. The brushes provided seemed good, although I only used the biggest one and used my own smaller brushes for doing the detail. The paints were good quality and there was more than enough to complete the picture. I am very satisfied with the end result and it fully deserves the 5 star rating I've given it.
